Political Notebook: GOP Events Abound This Weekend!

Anybody wanting to hang out with Republicans over the next few days has plenty of opportunities!

The Tennessee Young Republican Federation will take a break from the chaos of a nasty mail controversy generated from Maury County to host a statewide dinner at the Franklin Marriott in Cool Springs.

Saturday morning you can start your day with Putnam County Republican Sheriff Eddie Farris at Ralph’s Donuts in Cookeville at 8:30.

Saturday afternoon you will also find another large gathering of Republicans celebrating America’s 250th birthday in Mt. Juliet from 3-7 pm at Charlie Daniel’s Park.

Saturday night the GOP Statesman’s dinner, featuring Louisiana’s Senator John Kennedy will gather at the Music City Center in downtown Nashville. Senator Bill Hagerty is chairing the gala which has broken a record for the most funds raised at the annual event.

Both Senator Marsha Blackburn and Congressman John Rose will host after dinner gatherings featuring music, ice cream and photos with the candidates.

Then, if you haven’t had your fill of political hand shaking and baby kissing, Sunday you can join the Davidson County GOP at Centennial Park from noon to 4 pm.

There are a few other opportunities to get your political groove on during the next few days, but those are the biggies.

TFA POLL CLAIMS MONTY FRITTS IS A SHOE-IN FOR GOVERNOR, AND MONTY BELIEVES IT.
The Tennessee Firearms Association (TFA) conducted an on line poll last week. It was distributed to their members and shared on social media requesting prospective voters to weigh in on the Governors race. A little over 500 responded. It was widely promoted by the Fritts team, and the TFA crew supporting him.

The poll required submitting name, email and phone number to vote, which meant the TFA could identify exactly who people voted for. Not exactly a secret ballot, huh? And most folks these days are a bit reluctant to sign on for the avalanche of spam fundraising appeals and other “calls to action” that would be sure to follow after providing that information.

Fritts’ most ardent supporters were happy to provide that information and generated a “win” for Monty that they are now touting as clear evidence that Monty will win in a landslide on August 6. Right.

TFA says it’s a better poll than the county party straw polls purchased with ticket sales and free seats for votes. Actually, it seems pretty similar, and ultimately just as inaccurate.

Reality will hit soon enough, thankfully, as the onslaught of mail and media kicks into high gear over the next several weeks.

By the way, Democrat candidate for governor Jerri Green was just one more button from possibly winning the poll herself!
