VIDEO: On Fox 17’s ‘Nashville in Focus’, Steve Gill Offers Insight Into Tennessee Governor’s Race

Early voting for the August 6th primary is about three weeks away. To this point, you’d have a hard time convincing some people there’s a campaign going on. That might be because the leading candidates in the Republican party, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn and 6th District Congressman John Rose, aren’t on TV around the clock with ads bashing one another.

In fact, while they are on television trying to define themselves as candidates and what they have to offer, the candidates may be spending as much or more time pitching that message online. “So you’re not necessarily seeing it on the traditional stations like in the past. But man, if you’re watching Hulu, YouTube, streaming, you’re seeing a lot of ads for both the sixth district race with Jonny Garrett and Van Hilleary. You’re seeing a lot of the governor’s race ads. You’re not seeing as much of Marcia yet, but my understanding is that’s coming,” said Nashville attorney Steve Gill, Publisher of the conservative news site TristarDaily.com. Whether that’s a winning strategy remains to be seen. Veteran Democratic campaign strategist Kenya McGruder believes it could be an issue, particularly as it relates to connecting with voters in rural areas.
