Conservative Republican Van Hilleary, former Congressman and most recently Chief of Staff to 6th District Congressman John Rose, is airing his first television ad in the race to fill the seat being vacated by Rose, who is running for Governor. Hilleary served in Congress in Tennessee’s 4th Congressional District 1995-2003. He ran as the GOP nominee for Governor in 2002, narrowly losing to Phil Bredesen. The sixth district was redrawn by the legislature in May, eliminating most of Sumner County from the district and adding a few counties that Hilleary had represented previously.
The ad emphasizes Hilleary’s past military service as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force and that he stands with President Trump in fighting to put America “back on mission”. The ad also points out that he’s an America First conservative.
The primary date is August 6, with early voting beginning on July 17 and running through August 1.
