Political Notebook: Rose Launches New Ad Tying Himself Closely to Trump

The television ad wars in the Tennessee governor’s race are heating up. John Rose has just dropped a new tv commercial that emphasizes the CEO background that Rose shares with President Donald Trump. The spot is full of images of Trump and Rose together.

Through one of her affiliated PACs, Senator Marsha Blackburn is running an ad that implies Trump has endorsed her, which he has not done. Rose is clearly attempting to blunt the impact of the Blackburn spot by promoting his own ties to the President.

Rose also subtly draws a distinction between himself as a CEO, like Trump, and politicians who have failed to cut the federal work force, control the border, and accomplish the things Trump has accomplished as President. It’s pretty clear that the “politician” Rose has in mind is Blackburn, though she is not mentioned by name.
