Davidson County District Attorney Funk Cleared In Ethics Complaint Regarding  Secret Recordings

Davidson County District Attorney Glenn Funk has been cleared of an ethics complaint filed after a report of secret recordings by his office.

Comptroller Jason Mumpower filed the complaint over video cameras used to allegedly secretly record criminal defense attorneys with their clients, as well as alleged  campaigning by Funk’s staff.

The Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility (TBPR) launched an investigation following the September 2024 report by Mumpower’s office. Last week the TBPR found that the “complaint was unmerited” following a nine-month inquiry.

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti issued a clearance letter and decided not to prosecute Funk on alleged criminal charges stemming from the comptroller’s report in 2024.

DA Funk has maintained that neither he nor any member of his office had engaged in any illegal or unethical behavior as alleged by the Comptroller.

Attorney Greg Reed, who represented Funk, noted that the TBPR and Skrmetti actions demonstrate that: “General Funk’s Office operates at the highest levels of professionalism and integrity.”
