Crossville Schools Locked Down Amid Bomb Threat; UTC Responds to Active Shooter Report

A number of Tennessee schools experienced lockdowns this week amid a flurry of hoaxes and nearby incidents. Crossville schools—Martin Elementary, Cumberland County High School, and Phoenix School—were placed on lockdown due to a bomb threat at a nearby Dollar General store. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the lockdowns were lifted once safety was assured. The investigation is ongoing.

Separately, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) responded to an active shooter report on Thursday. The Hamilton County 911 Emergency Communications District alerted the UTC Police Department, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement and federal agencies.

Officers evacuated the UTC Library, University Center, and Fletcher Hall, ensuring student safety. The community was advised to “Run. Hide. Fight.” Fortunately, no evidence of a shooting was found. Classes were canceled for the day, and the university thanked first responders for their prompt action. Hamilton County officials have promised to prosecute the perpetrator to the fullest extent of the law.

Additionally, the University School of Nashville was evacuated Thursday morning following a bomb threat. Investigations are ongoing across the region.
