Perennial Memphis candidate Charlotte Bergman, who has run repeatedly and unsuccessfully for the old 9th Congressional District against Steve Cohen, is back on the ballot in the “New 9th.” She has a new website promoting her candidacy for the August 6 Republican primary.
She is facing several better known and well funded candidates in the GOP primary this time, including State Senator Brent Taylor, State Representative Todd Warner, and newcomer Jeremy Thompson. State Senator London Lamar and Rep. Justin Pearson, both from Memphis, are the main contenders in the Democratic primary.
Warner has already dropped an initial ad in the race. Taylor has already dropped $1 million of his own money into the race, so he will not be far behind and launching an extensive media campaign. His consultants reportedly include Layne Provine, Ward Baker and Chip Saltsman, who are regularly in adversary positions in campaigns across Tennessee. Provine has been Taylor’s primary political consultant for a few years. In addition to his funding, Taylor has also loaded up with a number of key endorsements early on.
