Natisha Brooks has dropped out of the campaign for the Republican nomination for Congress in the 6th congressional district and is instead turning her attention to the Mayor’s office in Nashville. She seeks to unseat incumbent Mayor Freddie O’Connell in the August election next year. O’Connell has announced his intention to seek a second term.

Second-term Metro Councilmember Joy Styles, has also launched a campaign, citing concerns over the city’s leadership and current development
priorities.
O’Connell has vulnerabilities, from a flip-flopping response the the NES response to the January ice storm, a continued frosty relationship with the GOP dominated state legislature, and a huge property tax increase, among others. Can any opponent amass the resources to beat him in what will almost certainly be a runoff?
The right candidate with the right record, accumulation of business, labor, and community interest groups, and financial resources could possibly win. Can Brooks or Styles accomplish those things, or is there someone waiting in the wings who can?
