Former Montgomery Central Teacher Indicted, Arrested on Obscenity Charges

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Matthew G. Vedder, a former science teacher at Montgomery Central High School and the husband of Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools Director Jean Luna-Vedder, has been arrested following a Montgomery County Grand Jury indictment.

Vedder faces four counts of exhibiting obscene material to a minor. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said he was booked into the county jail, where his bond was set at $10,000. He has since been released after posting bond.

The charges stem from a March incident in which Vedder allegedly showed a student nude photographs. He resigned from his teaching position following the investigation. At the time, the school district said an inappropriate image was “accidentally briefly” displayed while he was showing a student an otherwise appropriate image.

The Sumner County District Attorney’s Office, serving as special prosecutor after the Montgomery County District Attorney recused himself, presented the case to the grand jury, which returned the indictment on July 7.

Prosecutors said no further public statements will be made while the case is pending and emphasized that Vedder is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
