Vanderbilt Vaults Into Top 20 Ranking in College Football; Ranked Ahead of Notre Dame

Vanderbilt’s 70-21 victory over Georgia State on Saturday has generated a lot of national attention,  along with a top 20 ranking early in the season. The 4-0 Commodores sit at No. 18 in the latest AP Top 25 released on Sunday afternoon. The ‘Dores rank only one spot behind No. 17 Alabama, two weeks ahead of a faceoff in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Alabama plays Georgia this weekend in a huge SEC contest.

In the Coaches Poll, Vandy rose from No. 23 to No. 20 by jumping Illinois, Utah and Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish won this weekend but remain under .500 on the season at 1-2.

Before taking on the Crimson Tide, Vanderbilt will need to get past Utah State, 3-1, this Saturday in Nashville. The schedule does not get any easier, with upcoming home games against LSU (Oct. 18) and Auburn (Nov. 8). Nevertheless, Commodore fans would love to take a 5-0 record and a lot of momentum into Tuscaloosa.
