Former Congressman Van Hilleary has reported raising over $607,000 in his first campaign finance filing for Tennessee’s 6th Congressional District. His campaign claims this amount sets a state record for a Republican candidate’s initial report.
According to the campaign, Hilleary’s total of $607,640.89 nearly doubles the fundraising of his closest opponent and surpasses the combined total of all other candidates in the race to replace outgoing Representative John Rose. Hilleary entered the contest in July, marking his return to politics after previously serving as a congressman and being the Republican gubernatorial nominee in 2002.
In a statement, Hilleary described his campaign as reflecting “grassroots energy” and a strong desire among voters for experienced leadership. “This race is not about adding another title to my resume,” Hilleary said. “Our country is hanging on by a thread, and we need serious leaders for serious times.”
He highlighted his past work in Congress during the late 1990s, a period known for a balanced federal budget. Hilleary also expressed support for former President Donald Trump’s agenda, stating that he would work to “restore the economy, secure the border, and put America First.”
The Hilleary campaign noted that contributions have come from every county within the 6th District, which covers parts of Middle Tennessee. “The response from across the district has been incredible,” Hilleary remarked. “We’re seeing real momentum from voters who want to get our fiscal house in order and defend conservative principles.”
