For political observers waiting and watching to see when the special election in the Republican primary for the seventh congressional district would heat up and get into attack mode, the time is now. Early voting starts in that special election, initiated by the resignation of GOP Congressman Mark Green, begin begins on September 17 with the primary election date set for October 7. The general election which will include the winner of three significant Democratic primary candidates, is December 2. (Complicating turnout issues for that general election date is the fact that several of the counties in the district will have fall break the weekend before that Tuesday election date.)
Williamson County state representative Lee Reeves is one of 11 Republicans seeking the nomination in the special election. When he ran for, and won, election to the state house last year he was the target of some limited primary attack ads and even more limited media coverage regarding his ownership of apartments in Houston, Texas that housed illegal aliens. Thanks to his huge spending advantage in that race, and the assistance of Americans for Prosperity with their door-knocking crews, he won the primary, in a district where the republican nomination is tantamount to election.
Now, despite Reeves proclaimed support for President Trump’s agenda for deporting, illegal aliens and cracking down on those who employ them and house them, the issue of his support for and profiting from illegal immigrants has re-emerged.
A mail piece hitting Reeves on his hypocritical stance on illegal immigration landed in 7th District mailboxes this weekend. Tennessee Republican Assembly PAC distributed the mail piece that details how Reeves profits from housing illegals in an apartment in Houston, TX. According to local police reports that apartment complex has a history of a lot of criminal activity involving the residents.
Interestingly, Reeves has just been endorsed in the race by GOPAC, which claims to support Trump’s tough on Illegal immigrants agenda. Some political observers in the seventh district are already asking whether GOPAC will withdraw their endorsement based upon the revelation of Reeves involvement in providing housing for illegals. Others are wondering about the process they used in vetting the candidates in the Republican primary.

TRA PAC is reportedly seeking funds to send a second mail piece in the next week.
