East Tennessee Republican Rep. Tim Burchett called for the release of the Department of Justice‘s evidence against the late accused pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Burchett is part of a growing call for complete transparency in the case.
Appearing on Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” with Martha Raddatz, Burchett applauded President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi for seeking the release of the grand jury details of the Epstein indictment and called it a “start”. However, he cautioned against releasing material that might expose the identities of victims and others in the files who may be innocent.
Burchett pushed back against President Trump’s claim last week when he called Republicans demanding the release of the documents “foolish” and then claimed the Epstein files were a hoax concocted by Democrats
“Was I a little ticked off he said that stuff? Sure, I was, but I’m a big boy, Ma’am,” Burchett said. “We’re playing in the big leagues right now.”
When pressed by Raddatz about what he expected to learn from more details being released Burchett noted: “I don’t think we’re ever going to get to the bottom of … all of it.” “You know, this town doesn’t give up its secrets very easy.”
Burchett declined to add his voice to those calling for Bondi to resign over the handling of the Epstein files and her previous inconsistent comments. Burchett said he criticized her communication on the issue but isn’t calling for her to step down.
“I have a saying: It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish,” Burchett said. “If she finishes strong on this, then I’m all for it,” Burchett said. “I’m sure the learning curve is steep, and I think she blundered in the beginning, I really do, as most Americans do.”
In recent months, the congressman, who regularly sports a Carhartt jacket over his suit, as dramatically increased his media profile. Just last week he was the focus of a very positive Daily Caller profile. He has becomefrequent guest on numerous national media, including Fox News and others. His brief walking commentaries and congressional updates posted on “X” regularly go viral, including his hilarious interactions with a Democrat Party video “tracker.”
