Report:  Illegal Immigrants Received Nearly $200 Million in Federal Grant Money

Since 2021, nearly $200 million in federal healthcare-related grants have been distributed to benefit undocumented individuals in the U.S.

Researchers at Open The Books (OTB) stated that the grant dollars used were under the umbrella of “healthcare outreach,” allocated to states for expanding programs for undocumented immigrants.

Most of the identified spending on illegal immigrants went to programs providing services directly to the public (as opposed to scientific research). Of the $185 million in total programmatic expenditures, $182 million came from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The remaining $2.5 million came from the Corporation for National and Community Service, which runs programs like AmeriCorps,” said OTB.

Americorps ran a program that spent $2.5 million to “assist with outreach, largely individuals who are undocumented, who will be newly eligible for state subsidized health insurance coverage.

OTB found $75.6 million was spent from the Department of Health & Human Services on providing health care to illegal immigrants who were “geographically isolated and economically or medically vulnerable.”

Eighteen million in federal spending was spent on health-related research projects involving illegal immigrants to expand their access to healthcare or other taxpayer-funded programs in the name of health “equity.”  Millions were spent on programs studying the idea of a universal basic income.

Millions of funding for illegals who were homeless, drug-addicted, or otherwise “medically fragile.” OTB found $31 million went to programs treating substance abuse.

The amount listed by OTB doesn’t even account for indirect spending on illegal immigrants via Medicaid and education. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that over $90 billion was spent on those two programs from FY 2017-2023, benefiting illegal immigrants and their children.

OTB says the Trump administration is making headway on eliminating the waste spent on illegals in the U.S. One of the areas that is helping with the cost is putting a stop to illegals coming in from the border.
