Opinion: Winter Arrives So Some Climate Scientists Say Gulf Stream Could Collapse And Begin A New Ice Age

At some point, legitimate scientists will need to conduct a study to determine which is a more serious medical condition: Climate Hysteria Syndrome (CHS) or Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). Fortunately, it appears that those that suffer from either usually suffer from both.

A key Atlantic weather/air current could be pushed “to the brink of collapse” within decades, supposedly ushering in a new ice age and dramatically raising sea levels, climate scientists have claimed in a controversial new study published in the journal Communications Earth & Environment. Wasn’t it “man-made” global warming that was going to dramatically raise the sea levels? Now it’s global cooling that will supposedly do the same thing?

And does anybody else find it odd that the same weather prognosticators who can’t accurately predict the weather next Tuesday can tell us exactly what and why conditions will be decades from now. Based upon their predictions, and those from they always loud but never accurate Al Gore, the polar ice caps were to have disappeared by now. And the entire East Coast was supposed to be underwater.

Yet, the same liberal alarmists promoting these dire predictions have continued to buy their expensive beachfront properties while demanding that we drive expensive and inefficient electric vehicles and pay higher taxes.

The apocalyptic “sky is falling” Chicken Little-like predictions came as a result of a collaboration between researchers at the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS) and the University of California, San Diego. Hmm, looks like the climate change grant application season is opening early this year and those dependent on our tax dollars to find their “research“ are trying to elbow themselves to the front of the line.

The hysterical climate diagnosis comes just weeks after one-time climate alarmist Bill Gates publicly downplayed the impact of temperature fluctuations on the planet. Gates said that climate change won’t cause ‘humanity’s demise’ and called for a shift in focus to ‘improving lives.’ If you’ve lost Bill Gates…

According to these new findings, the at-risk current in question is the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation or AMOC, a “conveyor belt of the ocean” that funnels warm water toward the ocean surface — from the tropics to the Northern Hemisphere.

This current, which includes the Gulf Stream that runs from the Gulf of Mexico to the US East Coast and across the Atlantic to Europe, helps maintain the mild climate of Europe, the UK, and the US East Coast.

The study states that the source of this marine temperature regulator, the Greenland Ice Sheet, is being thawed amid warming temperatures, causing meltwater runoff to leach into the North Atlantic — leading to stagnation. Ahh, there’s the target of blame again: so called Global Warming!

This sudden phenomenon has resulted in a “distinctive temperature fingerprint” located some 3,280 to 6,560 feet below the ocean’s surface, according to reporting by the Daily Mail.
Reuters notes that this could pose a national security risk. Apparently, if the environmental and climate taxpayer funding is not sufficient, researchers want to dig into the pockets of the defense department to justify their future research. Coincidentally, the last time the AMOC collapsed was before the last Ice Age that ended about 12,000 years ago, Reuters reported. Thus, we are not just relying upon science, we are now depending on “coincidence” to justify the fears being promoted by the climate kooks.

The impact of this devastating research will be felt early in the next century, but we need to spend tax dollars now — but only to undercut the economic development of countries that manufacture with much cleaner and less environmentally damaging processes, like the U.S. Third World countries, and major industrial giants like China, can continue to spew millions of tons of pollutants into the air, the so-called cause of global warming, because “global” warming is really just regional. And the major producers of the dangerous elements of the warming trends can’t be expected to help. “save the planet“.

We got a preview of how climate activists would respond to data that didn’t back their alamist claims back in 2025, when Duke University was widely criticized for publishing this article about climate change being more moderate than most worst-case models. Hobbling the U.S. economy is the real intent of activists, not saving the planet from the research-funded doomsday de jure that is always followed with a demand for more money to conduct more “research.” Otherwise, the worst practitioners of produced pollutants, like China and India, would be on board to restrict their own economic growth — not just the U.S.

One of the most interesting aspects of this “research“ predicting the coming ice age is the claim that it has been developing for decades. So at least they are not blaming Trump.
