Opinion: No Kings, Narco-Terrorists, and Lawfare Will Not Help Democrats Win in November 2026

This opinion piece was originally published on FloridaDaily.com

As a former executive director of the Florida Democratic Party, I can share with you that the national Democratic Party is not advancing its cause with its current tactics and message.

Democrats, when they have the opportunity, seem to always select the wrong side of the argument whenever President Donald Trump announces a new policy initiative, a symptom of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Take, for example, the President’s recent unilateral actions against narco-terrorists who are attempting via high-speed boats or partially submersible submarines to deliver illicit drugs to our country.

Whether it is fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, or another dangerous drug, America is, for once, using its formidable military power to restrict access by drug traffickers on the open seas.

Together with the President’s actions at the southern and northern borders, we are crimping the profits of the drug cartels.

This deterrence is something that the average American citizen values, even if they do not like the methods utilized.

For the Democrats to scream that these actions are extrajudicial killings is technically correct, but it is still not a winning argument.

Parents are more interested in minimizing drugs on the streets than in whatever the ultimate outcome is for drug traffickers.

Sure, leftist lawyers and activists are savoring the killings to excite their base, but it fails to move independent or GOP voters to the Democrats’ position.

America has tried supporting anti-drug efforts in Colombia, Peru, among other nations, but drug profits and corruption always win.

What else can America really do to interdict drug runners?

Arrest them, bring them to America, and try them as the Democrats suggest?

That means jail/prison costs, food and board, government-paid federal public defenders, years of appeals, etc.

Taxpayers do not want to bear that financial burden for violent criminals who are not Americans who send drugs our way.

Likewise, on President Trump’s sending the National Guard to Washington, DC, and other states to combat proliferating crime and arrest illegal immigrants.

Washington, DC’s crime rate, as the mainstream media has incessantly reminded us, is going down, and they provide statistics to try and back it up.

But the American people do not buy it because of the consistent string of crimes that have unfortunately befallen its citizens, workers, and visitors, including carjackings, political assassinations, and brutal beatings, to name just a few.

No one, no one, felt safe out at night in the nation’s Capital prior to the troops coming in.

Thousands of illegal aliens have been rounded up, including TdA and MS13 gang members, murderers, rapists, sex traffickers, and human traffickers.

No one is complaining except for the Democrats and their mainstream media co-conspirators.

Now, with the National Guard backing up the local police, more people are venturing outside than ever, and the story has vanished from the front pages.

The President’s next target is the crime capital every weekend, Chicago.

No city has earned a worse reputation for children and innocents getting shot and killed than the Windy City.

Yep, you can count on both hands and both feet and then some, on the number of people who are the innocent victims of crime in this notoriously badly-run city by Mayor Brandon Johnson, who incredibly, is even worse than former Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

His popularity is just 26% in the latest poll of Chicagoans.

Meanwhile, Democratic Mayor Paul Young of Memphis, who actually campaigned on creating a safer community, has requested that Trump send troops to his city to help fight crime.

That is the kind of Democrat who will get reelected because he is putting the best interests of his citizenry ahead of politics, and the average citizen expects and demands safety more than anything else.

New Orleans, Portland, Los Angeles, and San Francisco will get federal troops as soon as the Democratic lawsuits fighting such help make their way through the appellate courts and to the US Supreme Court.

Lawfare, which the Democrats were repeatedly warned about when times change, has become the last bastion of a dying Party.

And to their credit, they have scored consistent wins with federal district judges.

However, these wins are only transitory because in each case, whichever side loses appeals.

Eventually, the cases or a case is going to make it to SCOTUS, and when it does, the President’s authority to quell crimes against federal installations and round up illegal aliens with the help of the National Guard is, in all likelihood, sustained.

I can hear it now, the Democratic howls of protest.

But for those Baby Boomers like me, we remember when President Dwight Eisenhower appointed Earl Warren as the Chief Justice, and hence the beginning of the Warren Court in 1953.

For almost a generation, the Warren Court brought substantial and, in some cases, meaningful and important contributions to case law and American rights.

Yet we also saw a liberal court that began the process of going too far to the Left and forgetting about the meaning of the words in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Lawfare, invented by the Democrats to keep Trump from becoming President, is now the new coin of the realm going forward.

For Democrats who value TDS over everything else, they are succumbing to the notion that, regardless of what Trump does, they must oppose him, regardless of what position Democrats are advocating for..

This past weekend’s No Kings protests were an obvious example of the Far Left’s continuing chokehold on the Democratic Party.

The 7 million protesters, some paid, some violent, are but a small percentage of Democratic voters, and a lot of them look like 1960s hippies, my generation!

To suggest that independent or Republican voters are suddenly going to have an epiphany and radically change their minds as a result of these protests is misleading, as No King would allow such protests nor be as transparent as Trump has been.

His Cabinet meetings are a feast for any political junkie.

Trump consistently tells you what he is thinking, and although it is not always linear, he acts on his thinking, and for that, many Americans appreciate his honesty, though again not always his methods.

Like it or not, one must admit that no President has ever been this up-front with the American people, and it is a sea change from the Biden administration.

Still, most Americans just want common sense to reign over government so that they can live their lives to the fullest.

And that common sense includes fighting crime, deporting illegal aliens, and keeping drugs off of our streets so that native-born Americans and legal immigrants in our country can enjoy the fruits of their labors.
