The Hickman County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed “multiple” fatalities from an explosion at Accurate Energetic Systems in the Bucksnort area early Friday morning. Emergency responders are continuing to search for survivors. Bucksnort is about 50 miles west of Nashville.
An official with nearby Humphrey County Emergency Management said at least 19 are missing and multiple others have been hospitalized. Three patients with “minor injuries” from the explosion have been treated at TriStar medical facilities in Dickson, according to the director of media relations. Two have been released after receiving walk-in treatment at TriStar Horizon Medical Center, and the third is currently being treated as a walk-in at TriStar Natchez Emergency Room.
According to the company’s website, Accurate Energetic Systems, LLC was established in 1980 and “is dedicated to the development, manufacture, handling, and storage of high-quality energetic products utilized in both defense and commercial markets.”
This is not the first time an explosion has occurred at the facility. In fact, it is the second and just 12 years. In April 2014, one man was killed and four others were injured during an explosion at the plant.
The 2014 explosion occurred at the back of the building, causing extensive damage. At the time, the Humphreys County Sheriff said the incident occurred where shotgun ammunition was housed.
This is a developing story.
