In just under a week, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi says 273 arrests have been made and 73 illegal guns have been seized by the Memphis Safe Task Force.
On Saturday, Bondi said the task force arrested 74 people and seized 16 illegal guns.
“Arrests include multiple gang members, including one wanted for murder, and an illegal alien juvenile arrested with approximately two pounds of methamphetamines,” Bondi announced in a social media post.
Not only have arrests and confiscation of guns resulted from President Trump’s deploying the National Guard to aid Memphis in dealing with their out of control crime issues, crime itself has dropped dramatically in just the first few days.
Friday evening, Memphis Mayor Paul Young praised the arrests touted by the task force. He said the Memphis Police Department was working alongside federal agents in the operation, and said MPD was making arrests as well.
“We have members of MPD working alongside these agents to ensure they have local insight into the daily operations,” Young said in a statement Friday. “On the MPD front, there have been an additional 167 arrests this week.”
Trump’s efforts to address crime in America’s biggest cities follows on the success that his administration has had in DC. In Washington, DC, Bondi says 3,837 arrests have been made to date, and 361 illegal guns have been seized by law enforcement partners. Residents of the nation’s capital are applauding Trump‘s effort to restore safety to DC. Democrats, however, continue to protest against efforts to restore safety and security in cities where lawlessness has become rampant.
