Investigation Ongoing into Teacher Allegedly Sharing Nude Photos

Montgomery County, TN – Matthew Gay Vedder, a 52-year-old teacher at Montgomery Central High School, is currently under investigation following allegations that he displayed nude photographs of himself to a 17-year-old female senior during class. The incident reportedly occurred while Vedder was displaying project-related images on his mobile device. According to reports, he inadvertently swiped to personal nude selfies while attempting to share educational material.

The incident has sparked widespread discussion and public reaction among community members, especially concerning Vedder’s claim of accidental disclosure. Local news outlets, including Clarksville Now and FOX 17 Nashville, have extensively covered the story, and it has received significant attention on social media.

Vedder has admitted to showing the nude images, asserting it was unintentional. This claim is corroborated by the student’s account of the event. Notably, the nude photos were deleted from Vedder’s phone before police questioning, raising concerns about the integrity of the investigation. As a precautionary measure, Vedder has been assigned to an alternative position off of school property while the investigation proceeds. He is married to Dr. Jean Luna-Vedder, who serves as the Director of Schools for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS).

The legal implications of this incident are serious, considering the potential for criminal charges under Tennessee law. Although no formal charges have been filed as of March 17, 2026, the following possible legal outcomes could be imminent.

Displaying explicit images to a minor could lead to criminal charges related to sexual misconduct. Allegations may require reporting to child protection services, given the nature of the incident. Violation of laws regarding the distribution of harmful material to minors could result in felony charges. The student and her family could pursue civil lawsuits for emotional distress or negligence against both Vedder and the school district.

Automatic revocation of teaching licenses can occur for certain sexual offenses, with the State Board of Education having the authority to impose sanctions. Vedder’s alternative assignment reflects the school district’s commitment to thoroughly investigating allegations of misconduct.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the school district are still investigating the situation. Similar cases in Tennessee have often led to people losing their jobs, having their licenses revoked, or facing criminal charges. This shows how serious these allegations are. The final results will depend on the evidence collected and how the law views the incident. As new information comes out.
