Lynsi Snyder, billionaire president and owner of In-N-Out Burger, announced that she and her family are relocating from California to Tennessee, citing concerns over safety, crime, and California’s changing values.
Snyder, 42, told The Orange County Register that while In-N-Out’s headquarters will remain in Irvine, her family needs a fresh start in a place where they feel more aligned culturally and spiritually.
“We’re not selling our house in California,” Snyder said, noting they plan to return often for business and family visits. “But we feel a strong calling to make a new home in Tennessee.”
Snyder cited rising crime, drug use, and the state’s declining quality of life as reasons for the move. She also expressed concerns about how California policies are affecting young people.
“We love California deeply, but it’s not the same state it used to be,” she said.
Snyder inherited the In-N-Out empire in 2010 following the death of her grandmother, Esther Snyder, who co-founded the burger chain in 1948. Under her leadership, the company has expanded eastward while maintaining its commitment to quality and family values.
Tennessee, particularly the Nashville area, has become a popular relocation spot for high-profile individuals and business owners leaving California in recent years, often citing lower taxes, a more conservative political climate, and a different pace of life.
While Snyder emphasized that In-N-Out will remain a California-based company, she hinted that the personal move reflects broader values that have always guided the brand.
