U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of multiple noncitizens across several states during the first week of August, each convicted of serious criminal offenses including child sexual abuse, gang assault, burglary, and larceny.
The agency said the arrests are part of ongoing enforcement actions targeting “the worst of the worst” offenders who are in the country illegally and have prior convictions for violent crimes.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that ICE agents are removing dangerous individuals from communities nationwide. “Just yesterday, ICE arrested rapists, thieves, and other violent offenders,” McLaughlin said, urging qualified applicants to consider careers in immigration enforcement.
Among those taken into custody were:
- Gorje Patricio Palaguachi-Mayansela, a citizen of Ecuador, convicted of gang assault in Queens, N.Y., and re-entry of an aggravated felon in Tucson, Ariz.
- Md Mobarak Hossain, a citizen of Bangladesh, convicted in Queens, N.Y., of first-degree sexual abuse involving a child under 11 and endangering the welfare of a child.
- Perla Salais-Solis, a citizen of Mexico, convicted in Alamogordo, N.M., of non-residential burglary and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.
- Daniel Arevalo-Hernandez, a citizen of El Salvador, convicted in Wake County, N.C., of felony larceny, possession of a stolen vehicle, and breaking and entering.
- Jose Antonio Banda-Banda, a citizen of Mexico, convicted in Harris County, Texas, of indecency with a child and child fondling.
ICE said the individuals will remain in custody pending removal proceedings or deportation.
