Cumberland University President Dr. Paul C. Stumb has issued a statement confirming the dismissal of two employees following a thorough investigation into inappropriate online comments regarding the recent shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk

In his message, Dr. Stumb emphasized the university’s commitment to creating a supportive and safe learning environment for all students and staff. He stated, “At Cumberland University, we are committed to fostering an environment where learning, growth, and personal development can flourish free from disruption or concern.”

The individuals dismissed include Dr. Michael Rex, a faculty member, and Mr. Max Wood, a staff member, both of whom made remarks deemed unacceptable in light of the tragic event. Dr. Stumb noted that the decision to part ways with the employees was not taken lightly, highlighting the importance of the issue at hand.

The university president reassured the community that a comprehensive investigation was conducted before arriving at this conclusion, underscoring the institution’s dedication to maintaining academic integrity and a respectful atmosphere on campus.

“We remain steadfast to our mission to promote higher education, nurture academic excellence, and support a safe and inclusive learning environment for all,” Dr. Stumb concluded in his message.
