A charge of driving with a suspended license against Tennessee wide receiver Chris Brazzell has been dismissed after his arrest earlier this month.
Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies clocked the 21-year-old Brazzell driving 60 mph in a 35 mph zone and then arrested him after learning his driver’s license had been suspended for failing to appear in Blount County court on another driving violation in 2024. That earlier citation was for failing to carry insurance on his vehicle.
Brazzell produced proof of insurance and paid court costs in Blount County, which then dismissed that charge on Aug. 11, court records show. The Blount County court decision restored his driving privileges and so the charge of driving on a suspended license in Knox County was dismissed.
Brazzell was scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment on Aug. 20, but that was no longer necessary because his driver’s license had been restored and the charges had been dropped.
“For perfunctory charges, like if you were driving around and your tag was expired or your license was expired, you can furnish that and bring those to court and deal with them,” Brazzell’s attorney, T. Scott Jones, explained to Knox News. “That’s what happened in (Brazzell’s) case, and he was cleared by the Department of Safety.”
“This is nothing strange. This happens every day. They’re not going to litigate every one of these. The goal is to get people’s driving privileges restored.”
Brazzell is UT’s top returning wide receiver in an injury depleted wide receiver room. He had 29 receptions for 333 yards and two touchdowns last season.
Tennessee opens their 2025 season against Syracuse in Atlanta on October 30.
