Congressman Tim Burchett, a Knoxville Republican, has been named Chair of the House Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency after U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene left Congress on January 5.
Burchett, who has served on the DOGE subcommittee since its inception in 2024, announced his leadership position Jan. 9.
“The American people are fed up with wasteful spending and fraud in the federal government. Under my leadership, I will eliminate reckless spending, slash unnecessary bureaucratic red tape, and investigate the rampant fraud and abuse in government,” Burchett said in a news release.
Burchett was a strong supporter President Donald Trump‘s efforts to slim down government programs and cut the federal workforce. Trump created the Department of Government Efficiency and appointed billionaire businessman Elon Musk to run it. The House subcommittee was designed to assist those efforts,
It is a subcommittee of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chaired by U.S. Rep. James Comer. Burchett serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in addition to the oversight committee.
