Ole Miss head football coach Lane Kiffin finally ended the drawn out drama and made it official with a post on X. He is headed to LSU to seek a national championship with the Tigers.
Despite an 11-1 season, a berth in the college football playoff, and a possible national championship run with the Ole Miss rebels, Lane well once again seek to discover whether the grass is really greener elsewhere. The millions of dollars in LSU “green” offered to him clearly helped his final decision.
The Rebels wasted no time in naming both an interim and permanent head coach in elevating defensive coordinator Pete Golding. Ole Miss is likely to host a first round in the college football playoff in Oxford.
Kiffin reportedly argued in favor of continuing coaching Mississippi through their playoff run, but the athletic director balked at that opportunity. It remains to be seen how many players and coaches may move with Kiffin to LSU. The looming transfer portal deadline obviously played a role in Kiffin‘s timing. Unlike Ole Miss, LSU has won national championships in the recent past and Kiffin clearly sees a better opportunity to win one there than by remaining in Oxford.
Go ahead and mark two dates on the calendar for next year as LSU will travel to Oxford and Knoxville for games late in the season in 2026.
