BREAKING: Former Tennessee House Speaker Casada Sentenced to Three Years In Prison

Glen Casada, former Tennessee Speaker of the House, has been sentenced to 3 years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a $30,000 fine. He was found guilty on 14 counts of honest service fraud and money laundering.

Casada’s former Chief of Staff Cade Cothren was sentenced earlier this month to thirty months in prison. Although the pair were each found guilty of more than a dozen fraud and corruption charges, Federal Judge Eli Richardson dismissed a few of the charges a few weeks ago before imposing sentences.

Robin Smith, another legislator and former chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party, was also charged in the scheme but pleaded guilty and cooperated with prosecutors

Casada and Cothren have both said they plan to appeal their convictions.
