The Beacon Center has announced Scott Gilmer as its new Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer after conducting a nationwide search. Gilmer currently serves as Beacon’s Vice President of Policy & Advocacy. In his new role, Gilmer will oversee the day-to-day operations of Beacon and its 501(c)(4) advocacy partner, Beacon Impact, and will work to build capacities and strategies to advance Beacon’s mission.
“I have enjoyed working closely with Scott for many years, most recently together at Beacon to advance our policy priorities,” said Beacon CEO Justin Owen. “I am excited to now have him as my strategic partner to make Tennessee the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”
Prior to joining Beacon, Gilmer worked in the private sector after several years as chief of staff to the Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives, starting in 2012 when he was appointed to the role by Speaker Beth Harwell. Gilmer holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and political science from the University of Tennessee at Martin and a master’s of public policy from Vanderbilt University.
“The opportunity to serve as Beacon’s EVP & COO is a great privilege,” said Gilmer. “Beacon has a talented, mission-driven team, and I look forward to contributing in new ways as we continue to drive meaningful impact for Tennesseans.”
