Crossville Shooting Victim Identified; Suspect Charged Amid Ongoing Local Crime Concerns

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — A Crossville resident has died following a shooting last Friday, August 22, prompting an active criminal investigation that echoes other recent violent incidents in Cumberland County.

Authorities report the victim was Albert Sturgill Jr., 63 (born October 21, 1961). Sturgill was first taken to a local hospital before being transferred to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. Special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, collaborating with the Crossville Police Department and the 13th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office, identified Eric Brandon Garrison of Crossville as the person responsible. Garrison was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with attempted second-degree murder. He remains in the Cumberland County Jail on $1,000,000 bond.

According to local law enforcement, the incident escalated from a verbal argument into a physical altercation that ultimately ended in gunfire. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Fourth and Main streets in Crossville’s downtown area.

While Crossville and Cumberland County generally report lower violent crime rates than larger Tennessee cities—Crossville logged 42 violent crimes in 2019, including no murders, according to available FBI data—violent crimes remain a serious concern for residents and law enforcement alike.

The TBI has also conducted several recent investigations across the county:

  • In July 2025, agents probed a deadly shooting in Rockwood at the request of the same 13th Judicial District Attorney General.
  • Earlier in 2025, another Crossville woman was arrested in connection with a separate TBI-backed shooting investigation.

These cases suggest a quieter but noticeable uptick in serious violent incidents within the jurisdiction.

Authorities are urging any witnesses or residents with information to come forward. The Crossville Police Department can be reached at 931‑484‑7231, or tips may be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 931‑200‑1173
