There are some Republicans, including conservative versions, who are questioning the GOP redistricting effort in Tennessee (and elsewhere) in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling in Louisiana v. Callais that racially gerrymandered congressional districts are unconstitutional, i.e. ILLEGAL. The Supreme Court has now expedited the application of their ruling, acknowledging that the current lines drawn based upon racial preference are in fact illegal. As a side note, it is increasingly clear that the liberal justices intentionally delayed their dissents in order to make adjusting the illegal congressional districts before the 2026 election cycle more difficult. They were essentially playing politics with the court ruling in order to “slow walk” the opinion and give Democrats one more election season with a built-in, unconstitutional advantage.
Democrats in Tennessee, and beyond, are screaming that Trump started this as a part of their sole policy agenda of hating Trump and their embrace of Trump Derangement Syndrome. A prime example of this is legislative representatives from Memphis claiming this is intended to deny them Black representation in Congress, while a white Jewish liberal has represented Memphis for decades! Meanwhile, supermajority white districts have elected several black Republicans to Congress, like Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, who appears poised to be elected Governor of Florida. (And didn’t Virginia Democrats just elect a white liberal woman as Governor while rejecting the first black Governor (Winsome Sears) of Virginia? And lest we forget Kentucky re-electing a white Democrat rather than black Republican Daniel Cameron? So much for Dems devotion to blacks!)
Trump didn’t start the redistricting fights. Massachusetts has more Republican voters than Tennessee has Democrat voters, yet Massachusetts Democrats gerrymandered a 9-0 Democratic advantage long before Trump ever took office.

And the entire northeast, with 40-45% Republicans has ZERO Republican seats in Congress. Again, Dems did that long before Trump arrived!

Republicans are balancing an illegal disadvantage that Dems put in place; and the illegally drawn districts aren’t just in the South. 28 states have Democrats in seats drawn to benefit THEM rather than respect voters’ political preferences. https://spectator.org/the-democrats-may-not-survive-callais-ruling/
Republicans aren’t breaking the system with their redistricting plans; they are trying to fix it.
